Description

Palm trees bend in the strong winds of a sunny blustery day at Lapakahi State Historical Park near Kawaihae on the Big Island of Hawaii, an archaeological site of a traditional Hawaiian fishing community.

This is an image of starkness and beauty, where a sky blue ocean laps the shore of a bleached white coral beach. From the dead corals rise clusters of palm trees, bending from the strong winds and providing a bit of greenery to an otherwise barren landscape,

Two palm trees dominate the image, reaching up into the brilliant blue sky and bending seaward in the stiff breeze. A man-made trail snakes its way past the trees, winding through a dark lava field, skirting additional palm clusters that dot the landscape, and finally disappears into white billowing clouds on the distant bright blue horizon.
