Description

I pointed to the photo and told the ranger, "This is what I'd like to photograph." "Ah!" he said, "For that kind of image, you'd want to be on the Last Chance Coastal Trail some time between 9am and 10am." He pulled out a map and showed me some prospective spots.

I took a break to catch my breath as I hiked up the steep switchbacks through the thick Alders, wondering if the effort was worth it. The trail finally levelled out and I was in the Redwood forest, where I noticed the mist was beginning to congeal up in the canopy.

Five minutes later, this happened!

It was one of those moments I'll always remember, a solitary traveler on a remote 10-mile stretch of pristine alders and redwoods, witnessing the ethereal interplay of caresses between Poseidon and Gaia.

Thank you, Mr. Ranger!
